DISTRIBUTION
Gasoline, fuel, and other products manufactured by Chalmette Refining employees are distributed by pipeline, ship, rail, truck, and barge.
In the near future the Refinery plans to begin using soybean and corn oil, and recycled cooking oil from restaurants along with animal fats that will be transported to Chalmette by rail, truck, or ship, and then converted into Renewable Diesel, which would then be shipped across the country, Canada, and Europe via ship, rail or truck.
CAPACITY
Approximately 189,000 barrels of crude oil are produced per day at Chalmette Refining, which produces about 1,200,000,000 gallons of gasoline.
Renewable Diesel: After this process is up and running, the plant is expected to produce 20,000 barrels of this fuel each day.
EMPLOYEES
Chalmette Refining is the largest private employer in St. Bernard Parish with 500 employees and 200 contractors working on site.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
Chalmette Refining is the largest taxpayer in St. Bernard Parish, paying millions of dollars annually in various taxes that help fund many local projects and infrastructure. Millions of dollars in direct tax payments are also made to the State of Louisiana annually.
Chalmette Refining’s Renewable Diesel project is projected to require investing $600,000,000 in the facility.
HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT
Chalmette Refining is leading the way in providing a safe and healthy environment for our employees and the community, which is best exemplified by the employees’ achieving 3+ years of injury-free work at the facility.
In addition, the refinery recently invested more than $400,000 in projects and is in the process of investing in installing new technology to better detect small benzene sources.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
“Commitment to Community” is a cornerstone of Chalmette Refining’s outreach in St. Bernard Parish. Refinery employees, retirees, and their families volunteer their time and talents to many community organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Chalmette Battlefield, United Way, St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce, Family Violence Center of St. Bernard, Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard-Arabi, St. Bernard Community Center, to name a few!
