In April, Chalmette Refining donated $20,000 to the St. Bernard Parish Public School System to fund a new initiative — The Power Up Program (PUP). PUP rewards students for their efforts in reading, respect, and responsibility in each of the elementary schools.
Board member Carly Jackson said this new endeavor will boost the rewards systems already in place which encourage participation in reading and the school’s positive behavior programs. “It is our hope that fresh, new rewards will excite our kids and encourage more reading and positive behavior.”
Jackson appreciated the team effort in bringing PUP to life. “I have loved being a part of creating this program and could not have made it happen without input and guidance from our administration and principals.”
